Many cancer patients in Florida that use Moffit Cancer Center got an unwelcome surprise when they found out that starting July 1, 2026 their HMO/PPO Medicare plans will be out of network at this sought after treatment facility.
In December 2025 Moffit announced that Atena HMO/PPO were no longer accepted and those that had Atena were now out of network. Now those that have Humana will also be out of network with their Medicare HMO/PPO plans. A move that has angered and shocked Humana policy holders.
So what does this all mean? Simply put, anyone that has Aetna or Humana Medicare HMO/PPO plans will still be able to use the facility, but their out of payment responsibility will now be under the out of network pricing structure. Plan owners can either switch their policy for a company that Moffitt does accept, they can pay cash for their treatment or they will pay higher co-pays and deductibles with the plan they have now.
Unfortunately open enrollment and annual enrollment periods for 2026 have closed, so any changes will need to come starting October 15th 2026. Original Medicare is still accepted, so they could potentially qualify for a SEP and downgrade to Original Medicare if they have Medicare Part C through Humana or Aetna.
Statement from Moffitt Cancer Center
While Moffitt remains a clinical institute of Excellence in Aetna’s networks, Aetna made a business decision to terminate Moffitt’s participation in it’s Medicare Advantage Network beginning December 1, 2025. Moffitt is seeing Atena Medicare Advantage patients moving forward.on an out-of-network basis. This change affects Aetna Medicare Advantage patients only, and Moffitt remains in network for other Aetna commercial/HMO/PPO and Medicaid Managed Care plans.
Effective July 1, 2026, Moffitt will become out of network for Humana Medicare Advantage HMO/PPO plans. This change is a result of a decision by Humana to terminate its agreement with Moffitt for business reasons that are unrelated to the quality of care provided by Moffitt. This change affects Humana Medicare Advantage patients only, and Moffitt will continute to see Humana Medicare Advantage patients in-network until the end of 2026 through Continutity of Care provisions.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services allows changes throughout the Medicare Advantage open enrollment season which runs through March 31, 2026. For more information visit Medicare.gov or call (800) 633-4227

Statement from Aetna
As of December 1, Moffitt Cancer Center is no longer in network for our individual Medicare Advantage plans but continues to participate in existing employer-sponsored Commercial and Group Medicare Advantage plans.
