Raised in Southern California as the only son of Filipino immigrants, Galang grew up straddling two worlds—the culture of his roots and the realities of American life. While his parents instilled pride in their heritage, the focus was often on education and assimilation. “As a kid, I didn’t think much about my Filipino culture, ” he reflects. “It wasn’t until adulthood that I felt a need to reconnect—and realized just how much I missed it.”
